Welcome to St Mary's CE Primary School. It is with great pride that I invite you to view our website and share with you some of the wonderful things we do.

Bucknell Primary School is a small rural village school at the heart of the village of Bucknell. Our beautiful village and school is blessed to be set amongst the beautiful South Shropshire countryside. The school was set up by The Sitwell Family in 1870 to provide education to local children. At St Mary's we are all very proud of our long history and the important role we play in ensuring the school continues to thrive and flourish.

The beautiful Shropshire Hills provide a breathtaking backdrop to our stunning and spacious school grounds. As well as giving the children the space to play and explore freely, our grounds provide them with ample opportunity to extend their learning beyond the class-room in an exciting yet safe and secure setting. Forest School sessions, gardening in our allotment, outdoor maths and science sessions are just some of the many outdoor activities enjoyed by our children.

All children should be given the support and opportunity to achieve at the highest level possible and the school considers the needs of each individual child very carefully and works hard to ensure that each child has the opportunity to nurture talents and aptitudes as well as ensuring that support is provided to allow pupils overcome barriers to their learning. The excellent progress made by our pupils would not be possible without the dedication and expertise of our very skilled and extremely caring staff, and the strong and supportive relationship between the school and parents. All of us, at St Mary's are passionate that each and every child should reach their full potential.

Whilst ensuring that all of our children reach the highest academic potential possible, we believe that we have a duty to ensure that the education we provide meets the needs of the whole child and not only prepares them for the next phase of their education but prepares them to embrace the lives they have ahead of them. We work tirelessly to ensure that the children are provided with exciting contexts for learning with as many rich experiences as is possible. We want our children to feel stimulated and excited about learning, to learn new skills and have the opportunity to apply them apply in creative and purposeful ways through a rich and varied curriculum.

The School is closely linked to St Mary's Church and a strong Christian ethos runs through all that we do. We work in close partnership with parents and the community to ensure that guidance and care is a cornerstone to our work. We pride ourselves on the confidence, maturity and kindness of our children and their willingness to take on responsibility and work cooperatively for the benefit of the school and the wider community.

We believe that the children at St Mary's are quite exceptional and that we have a duty to allow them to demonstrate their unique talents and abilities to be the best that they can be. We invite you to arrange to meet our children within the context of our warm and friendly school.

With best wishes

Anna Cook
